Hard Boiled Eggs. Who knew there were so many opinions on how to cook. Enter the Instant Pot. I’m always looking for the mess-less way of doing things. I’m that person that ends up with every. single. dish, pot, pan, you name it, out after cooking. Granted hard boiled eggs don’t require much more than one pot, a colander, and a bowl for the ice bath. I digress.
I love using the Instant Pot for hard-boiling. Especially in the Spring, when our girls really start laying again, and we become overrun with fresh eggs. Check out my post here on how to use the float test to ensure you’re always using the freshest eggs.
What you’ll need:
- Instant Pot (I use the 6 quart)
- Fresh Eggs
- Water
Method:
I wait until I have at least a dozen eggs to process at one time. This way we always have our fridge stocked with a quick snack.
Start by testing your eggs to ensure they’re fresh (this can also be done with eggs from your grocer). Then place a cup of water in the bottom of the instant pot stainless bowl, add the “trivet” and place one dozen eggs on top of the trivet. Close lid and seal, manually cook for 5 mins with a natural release for 8 min. Remove the eggs from the trivet (careful they will be hot!) and rinse under cold water. I do not mess with ice baths. I find the shells peel off easily without the added step, leaving behind a smooth and shiny egg white.
As I mentioned, we keep a carton in our fridge for easy snacking. If you choose to do the same, just rinse the eggs under cold water as noted above, leaving the shells on, and place whole eggs back in the carton for easy storage in your fridge, until ready to eat.
